Koyulhisar is Sivas's northernmost district and falls within the Black Sea climate zone. Known in antiquity as Kolonya and in early Christian times as Nicopolis, the district has the ruins of two castles, Kale-i Bala and Kale-i Zir; the Koyulhisar tomato is its well-known local product.
