Başkonuş Plateau lies northwest of Onikişubat district at an average elevation of 1,300 metres, a broad plain ringed by forested, steep slopes, with the 1,780-metre summit of Mount Başkonuş rising to its south. Suited to camping and festivals, the recreation area is 25km past the Andırın turn-off on the Kahramanmaraş-Kayseri highway, 55km from the city centre; it was registered as a forest resting area in 1995 and upgraded to an A-type recreation area in 2006.
