Kerkenes
An Iron Age city on Mount Kerkenes, enclosed by some 7 km of walls.

The city on top of Mount Kerkenes encloses an area of 2.5 square kilometres within walls some 7 kilometres long. Thought to have been founded around 600 BC and identified with the Pteria of ancient sources, it was burned and destroyed by the Persians in the mid-6th century BC. Phrygian inscriptions found in the excavations keep the debate about its identity alive. The finds are displayed in the Kerkenes hall of the Yozgat Museum.
