Impressed by the centuries-old plane tree beside the coastal road, Atatürk asked for the mansion itself to be moved rather than have the tree's branches cut to avoid damaging its windows. Rails were laid under the foundation and the mansion was slid to its present spot, which is how it got its name. Protected as a cultural and natural heritage site in 1980 and restored in 2016, it displays period furniture inside, and the 390-year-old plane tree beside it still stands.
