Ulukışla, on the pass between the Mediterranean and Central Anatolia, is known for the caravanserai built by the Ottoman grand vizier Öküz Mehmed Paşa in the first half of the 16th century. The Bolkar Mountains to its south, with caves and canyons, are popular for mountaineering, and the rock tombs at Toraman village date back to around 8000 BC.
