Babaeski

Babaeski lies in the Ergene plain west of Kırklareli and was brought under Ottoman rule in 1359. The 1467 Eski Mosque from the reign of Mehmed the Conqueror, the Cedid Ali Paşa Mosque built by the architect Mimar Sinan in 1555, and a stone bridge dating from 1633 are among its main historic structures; the district is known for watermelon growing and holds an annual agricultural festival.
