The Kümbet Mosque was built in the 10th century as the Church of the Twelve Apostles by the Bagratid king Abas I. It was converted into a mosque in 1064 when the region came under Muslim rule, taking the name Kümbet Mosque. Used for a time as a museum in the Republican era, it has been open again as a mosque since 1993.
