İzmir Bird Paradise is a wetland spread over 8,000 hectares within the Çamaltı Salt Works, registered as a Waterfowl Protection and Breeding Area in 1982. It is home to 205 bird species, including the endangered Dalmatian pelican, greater flamingo and several stork species, and around 50,000 birds pass through on migration each year. It has a visitor centre, bird-watching towers and bicycles for touring.
