Aliağa

Aliağa is an industrial district north of İzmir on the Gulf of Çandarlı, known for its large refineries and port facilities. It takes its name from Esseyyid Ali Ağa, who governed the area from 1760 to 1780; the remains of the ancient Aiolis cities of Kyme and Gryneion lie within its borders. The wetland at the Güzelhisar delta is protected as a bird-watching area.
