Yedikule Fortress
A seven-towered fortress built over the Byzantine Golden Gate at the sea end of the land walls.

The core of the structure is the monumental Golden Gate, built in 390 by Emperor Theodosius I. After the conquest of Istanbul, Fatih Sultan Mehmed added three more towers in 1458, completing the seven towers seen today. The fortress served in turn as a treasury, a state prison and, briefly in the 19th century, a menagerie, and it has been a museum since 1968.
