Giresun Castle
A castle on a hill above the city, dating from the Pontic period.

The castle on the hill above the city is thought to have been built in the 2nd century BCE by the Pontic king Pharnaces I; the large stone blocks at the base of its walls point to a history going back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods. It underwent a major repair in 1301 under Emperor Alexios II of the Empire of Trebizond.
