Doğankent, in inland Giresun, is a district in the Harşit valley; it was formerly called Harşit. The Islamic scholars Ömer Nasuhi Bilmen and Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır, who studied at the district's medreses, are notable figures in the region's educational heritage.
