Built for Sultan Selim II between 1569 and 1575, the Selimiye is the building Mimar Sinan called his masterpiece. With its broad dome, four slender minarets and light-filled interior, it is considered the peak of Ottoman architecture. With its complex, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011.
