Sarayköy

Sarayköy is a district on the Büyük Menderes plain, 20 km from central Denizli. It is said to have been founded by the Turkmen chieftain Sarıbey at the end of the 14th century, and in 1919 it was one of the places where the Greek advance was halted during the War of Independence. Its economy rests on cotton farming and textiles; geothermal resources at Kızıldere are used for heating and industry.
