Hacılar Höyük is a mound near Hacılar village, about 26-27km southwest of central Burdur. Excavations led by James Mellaart for the British Institute of Archaeology in 1957-1960 uncovered layers spanning the Early Neolithic to Early Chalcolithic periods, making it one of the earliest known settlements in western Anatolia. The 'Hacılar-type' pottery, female figurines and bird- and deer-shaped vessels recovered here are displayed in Burdur Museum; the site was placed under protection in 1990.
