Bilecik Castle

A Byzantine-era castle on the city's highest point, captured by Osman Gazi.

Known in the Byzantine period as Belekoma, the castle was captured by Osman Gazi in 1299 and was one of the key points in the founding of the Ottoman state. It carries traces of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods and has been restored and opened to visitors.
