Alinda Ancient City

Alinda was one of the important cities of Caria; according to Strabo, Queen Ada, daughter of Hecatomnus, withdrew here and made it her capital in 340 BC after being expelled from Halicarnassus by her brother Pixodarus. The city later adopted Greek culture and remained significant under Rome, minting its own coins until the 3rd century AD. The best-preserved structure today is the three-storey agora with a market building beneath it; well-preserved city walls, aqueducts and a theatre can also be seen.
