Ardanuç Castle
A largely ruined Georgian castle that was once the historic centre of the Klarjeti region.

According to Georgian sources the castle was built in the 5th century under King Vakhtang III and was strengthened in the 9th century by the Georgian ruler Ashot Kuropalates, who made it the political and economic centre of the Klarjeti region. Now largely in ruins, sections of its walls and the damaged single-nave Petre-Pavle Church can still be seen.
