One of the outstanding examples of Seljuk architecture, Kızılkule is a defence and watch tower built to protect Alanya's harbour and guard against attacks from land. Its inscription states it was commissioned in 1226 by Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad from the architect Ebu Ali of Aleppo. Octagonal in plan, 29 metres across and 33 metres high with five floors, the tower takes its name from its red bricks and now houses an ethnography museum.
