Located in the centre of Güzelyurt district in Aksaray, Monastery Valley is roughly five kilometres long and lined with numerous rock-cut churches, chapels and underground cities; after the Ihlara Valley, it is considered the region's most important valley. Beginning at the Kilise Mosque, the valley continues past structures carved into its slopes such as the Sivişli, Koç, Çömlekçi, Kalburlu and Kömürlü churches, and bears traces of the Roman and Byzantine periods.
